Brown spots are one of those unattractive visible signs of aging that can appear on your face or hands. Most of us acquired them unknowingly while we were overexposed to the sun in our youth. The sun’s ultraviolet rays are very harmful to the skin and overexposure brings out those unsightly dark spots years later.
Also known by other names such as age spots and liver spots, these ugly brown spots are created from excess pigmentation. Our body naturally produces melanin to protect the skin from the sun’s UV rays, but as you age the melanin is reduced. Plus the repeated exposure when we were young allows these dark spots to pop up as we get older.
The most logical way to prevent brown spots to occur in later years is to ensure that your skin is always adequately protected in your youth. People with fair skin are more prone to dark spots and genetics can play into this as well. If you are active in sports and other outside activities it is imperative that you always utilize a sunscreen that will protect the skin from UVA and UVB sun rays with an SPF of 30 or more. You should also ensure that if you sweat a lot or swim or shower, you should reapply the sunscreen periodically as needed.
- Effective Products – Known as skin bleaching or face whitening, there are many over the counter products that can be used to lighten dark spots and diminish their color. You should, however, check ingredients and not utilize any skin bleaching products that contain bleach or hydroquinone as these ingredients can irritate the skin and may even cause skin cancer. A good natural product for face whitening that is ideal is Ageless Derma Anti-Aging Skin Brightener that contains Alpha Arbutin known to be not only effective, but fast and easy to use.
- Home Remedies – There are many home remedies that have been passed down through the generations that can be used for skin bleaching or face whitening, but they can also be effective and are certainly worth a try:
- Aloe Vera – It is an antioxidant that will protect the skin. Just rub it in and leave it on.
- Lemon Juice – It should be applied twice daily for a few minutes then wipe it off. Some people mix it with honey.
- Milk Products – Products like buttermilk, milk or yogurt have been used by applying them twice per day and wiped off a few minutes later.
- Vitamin E – It is also an antioxidant and can be rubbed into the brown spot.
